Another Life

Lol. This exists. That shows my commitment to actually maintaining online blogs. Maybe I’ll revive this. We’ll see!

The deck has been performing well in testing. I’ve been testing with some friends from my local game store. They have all been playing legacy for a long time. One of them is Mr. Ben Nash, the winner of Portland’s most recent SCG legacy open. :D It’s a great format.

Keep on making the same old mistakes, makes untipping the balance so easy, when we’re living our lives on the edge, say a prayer on the book of the dead. (Part 1)

Part 1: The Royal Paladin of Rodaln

"Somewhere out there is a Necropolis and I want it destroyed!"

"Calm down Bakkon! Remember that vengeance is not a part of our studies. We must reinforce the base for future attacks because it is now painfully clear that the undead are out there."

"I want that forest purged Oltresh! We won’t have to put up with future attacks if we destroy the undead’s encampments."

"The base needs repair! Men are injured! Attacking is a suicide mission Bakkon. I will not let you lead your men into certain death!"

"My men are the best warriors in the entirety of Hyjal. They will have no problem taking down the enemy’s base."

"We need more time to develop a force strong enough. I did not train you to choose your bloodthirst over your sense of logic. Please, heed the voice of reason."

"I am a Prince Oltresh. I have command over these troops, not you! If you will not aid me, then you should just leave."

"You’ve lost your mind boy. I will not aid your attack. You need to learn one way or another."

Oltresh stormed off back on the road to Roldan. His knights followed him.

"Captain, I need you to prepare all of your able men to strike on the Necropolis", Bakkon barked.

"But sir, we don’t know where the necropolis is."

"We will send scouts 20 feet ahead of us at all times until the Necropolis is found."

"Yes sir!"

The captain ran off to the barracks to wake his men.

"Let battle be joined", Bakkon said towards the forest.

Round 1: U/B Heartless

Game 1: I had a pretty explosive start not knowing what i was playing against. When he played a darkslick, I automatically assumed it was U/B control. Unfortunately, I was wrong. It turns out heartless is pretty difficult to beat when they have so many copy effects. They copy all over my undying and it’s just easy for them to wurmcoil me.

SB: +1 Slime +2 Ray +2 Purge +1 Metamorph -1 Conscripts -2 Emmisary - 1 Ranger -1 Splicer -1 Huntmaster.

Game 2: He got heartless out turn two. And then frosted me to death.

Round 2: Oros tokens (again)

I walked into this game feeling hopeless. Turns out it didnt go as badly this week

Game 1: I ramped into an inferno titan on turn 4. This killed all tokens and kept his board clean. I won.

SB: +2 Ray +2 Gale -2 Emissary -1 ranger -1 splicer

Game 2: I got a huge army out and Elesh Norned when he had four honor of the pure out and his own army. Then i made a play that is now the bane of my existence. Before alpha, I podded a bird into a geist. Thus turning on a tragic slip he had. I alpha struck and he declared bocks and slipped. Making my attack horrible. It resulted in me losing.

Game 3: I dont know what the hell i was thinking but I kept a hand that was an Oblivion ring, 2 rays, a forest, a sunpetal, a slime and a metamorph. I lost hard.

Round 3: R/G wolf.dec

Game 1: I lost to stompiness and bad draws.

SB: none

Game 2: Elesh Norn came down hard. And it resulted in my win.

Game 3: Kept flipping huntmaster back and forth. Built up an army of wolves and alpha struck.

Round 4: U/W Delver-Blade

He conceded to me because he was a friend and didnt care enough

Next week, Ill be playing Tezzeret control. Tune in for some whacky adventures!

Tonight

Tonight was the greatest sunday night I have had in such a long time. It has been a month since I’ve had such a fun hangout. My friend and I spent the evening playing music, making macaroni and cheese quesedillas and watching netflix. For some reason, I felt happier tonight than usual. Maybe it was the quesedillas :D who knows? Food did not idea this! We did!

FNM post 2

Still playing Naya Pod. I went 3-2. Not a bad night at all. It was a lot of fun.

Round 1: Frites.

I hate how consistent this deck is. It should not be as consistent as it’s made itself to be. I lost 2-0 because he can bomb off turn 3. It’s a really tough matchup

Round 2: Mono-Red Goblins

This matchup was not difficult. All I had to do was get more creatures than him and it’s easier than you’d think. I won 2-1

Round 3: U/B Zombies (lili version)

I didn’t have a hard time during this matchup. Gravecrawler isnt particularly good. I usually swing right past him and i develop faster than zombies. I won 2-0

Round 4: Oros Tokens

Same guy as last week. This matchup is hopeless for me. I’m not equipped to deal with a shit ton of tokens. I lost 2-0

Round 5: No-show. Auto-win

FNM

It’s about damn time I got a prize. Finally switched to a comfortable deck. Naya pod. My list:

Main Deck:
2 Acidic Slime
3 Avacyn’s Pilgrim
4 Birds of Paradise
3 Blade Splicer
1 Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite
1 Fiend Hunter
1 Hero of Bladehold
2 Huntmaster of the Fells
1 Inferno Titan
1 Llanowar Elves
1 Phyrexian Metamorph
4 Strangleroot Geist
1 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
1 Thrun, the Last Troll
2 Viridian Emissary
1 Vorapede
1 Wurmcoil Engine

4 Birthing Pod
2 Oblivion Ring

4 Copperline Gorge
7 Forest
2 Gavony Township
1 Mountain
1 Plains
4 Razorverge Thicket
2 Rootbound Crag
3 Sunpetal Grove

Sideboard:
1 Acidic Slime
2 Act of Aggression
2 Ancient Grudge
2 Autumn’s Veil
2 Celestial Purge
1 Phyrexian Metamorph
3 Ray of Revelation
1 Tormentor Exarch
1 Wall of Tanglecord

Round 1: Oros tokens

I hate this matchup, though I love the guy who plays the deck. It’s a really aggressive list that wins out of nowhere with rally the peasants. In game 2, he managed to race my turn 4 wurmcoil engine after i dealt with 5 anthems and after i laid thalia down. The deck is ridiculous. Lost 0-2

Round 2: U/W Delver

Game 1: We both mulled to three. I kept a hand that was 2 forests and an emmisary. I drew into two strangleroot geists and won. That was a most memorable game. I won 2-1.

Round 3: B/R vamps

It sounds like a scrub deck but it was fun to play against. He managed to bloodthirst a bloodlord. and then on the next turn he played two rakish heirs with bloodthirst active. I lost that game. But, I won the next two. He read Elesh Norn for the first time. Sad day… I won 2-1

Round 4: U/B Heartless (no sideboard)

I won both games. The guy just got back into standard after years. He shouldve practiced more I guess. He did manage to double metmorph my inferno titan. Then i metamorphed the metamorph and found elesh norn. My birds of paradise swung for lethal I won 2-0

Haircut

Today was awesome. I cut like all of my long hair off. I can probably get a job now :D Life is so much better these days. I will admit i was uncomfortable last night and this morning. But it all went away. I think I can find myself sooner than i ever expected. Everyone at school tomorrow is gonna freak :D
